Hiking on Lake Como: the Greenway

There are so many hikes you can find on the Lario. Today I want to tell you about the Lake Como Greenway, a trail that is really not to be missed.

On Lake Como there are really all kinds of things to do, every day there is the possibility of a different excursion with unique and inimitable views.
Do you already know the Greenway of Lake Como? It is a trail that runs for more than 10 km between Colonno, Sala Comacina, Ossuccio, Lenno, Mezzegra, Tremezzo and Griante. This interesting hike takes place in part above the characteristic villages and in part along the shores of the lake. In this way, it will be possible to discover all the faces of the Lario: historic villages, green countryside, wonderful lake views, incredible villas and gardens.

The greenway route is simple and breathtaking

The whole route takes about 3 and a half hours, but you may not walk the whole route. In addition, there are several contact points with buses and navigation boats. The Greenway, follows the old Strada Regina and has a very easy route, within everyone’s reach, with a maximum elevation gain of 100 mt. Start your walk in Colonno, where in the southern part of the town you have to take via Cappella. Don’t worry, you can’t get lost: everywhere you will find directions to follow. Once through the village, continue toward Sala Comacina along the old Regina road. Terraces and olive groves testify to the Lake’s mild climate.

Arriving in Sala Comacina after half an hour or so (depending on the length of the photo breaks), leave the paved road for a trail that is quite panoramic. Here you can see from above the small but beautiful Isola Comacina. Walking on, after the bridge over the Premonte valley, descend to the hamlet of Spurano, with the church of S. Giacomo and its sail-shaped bell tower. Cross the village and descend to Isola with the beautiful Villa Balbiano. Next, in Campo di Lenno, Villa Monastero awaits you. Shortly after you can also find the fork to Villa Balbianello or you can continue along the Greenway to Lido di Lenno.

Here the route continues along the lakefront skirting the villas and the square to the landing stage, where you find a footbridge over the Pola stream that takes you to Tremezzo. Climb up to Mezzagra and, still following the signs, you arrive in no time at the church of S. Abbondio from whose churchyard you can admire one of the most beautiful views of Lake Como and the promontory of Bellagio. Continue downhill to the 18th-century Palazzo Brentano.

Continue your walk by crossing Bonzanigo, where, before the descent to the Lake, you encounter Palazzo Rosati. The last stretch of the Lake Greenway is entirely along the lake. Tremezzo, this wonderful village with its landing stage and arcades with bars and stores, is really a stop not to be missed. Be sure to make time for a visit to Villa Carlotta. The walk ends at Lido di Maiolica.

Take the opportunity to walk along the Greenway to discover Lake Como. We are waiting for you with a smile to help you plan your hike, see you soon!
