Harley Davidson and Lake Como

The first thing you will notice while walking by Lake Como is an authentic Harley Davidson invasion: many tourists indeed, on top of their favorite bike, choose Lake Como for their excursions. If you are dreaming about a weekend riding your beloved Harley Davidson at Lake Como, here there are a few ideas for you!

The passion for Harleys is a true one and it has spread to millions of people. Lake Como makes for a perfect destination for an excursion with your beloved ride. George Clooney is a lover of these wonderful bikes as well, and it’s easy to come across him while he is riding on the roads around the Lario. Lake Como has also been the stage of many Harley Davidson gatherings with hundreds of bikes, the last one, counting almost 500 participants, took place on the 14th of July 2013 in Como.

The best shore for your Harley Davidson-dedicated day is the northern one, where you will also find the Hotel Posta in Moltrasio. The itinerary, taking place mostly on the road Regina, will take you through fantastic landscapes and will give you the chance to stop at interesting sites. Driving on the road Regina is not easy because it is quite narrow, but it is truly fascinating. It goes through picturesque villages right by the lake, manors and grassy green parks. Leaving Como, you can reach Cernobbio in only a few minutes. Perfect place for a coffee-stop by the lake’s shore at the Molo dei Battelli.

Further on the road splits in two: the high panoramic road on a side and the old road that goes through the villages next to the shoreline on the other. On this road are situated the Hotel Posta in Moltrasio and the restaurant La Veranda, perfect if you want to stop for lunch or to stay overnight. After about 5km the 2 roads become one again. The road continues then to Argegno and Ossuccio, a picturesque village situated right in front of the Island of Comacina.

The road then turns into a more challengin one, with plenty of curves, till it reaches Lenno. Here, on a hill, another beautiful manor is situated, Villa del Balbianello, reachable only from the lake. Continuing on the itinerary the next town up is Tremezzo (here don’t miss the beautiful Villa Carlotta) and then on to Menaggio, that together with Bellagio and Moltrasio are by far the most charming towns by Lake Como. Here I advise a stop under the sun in one of the many cafes on the main square, after stretching your legs with a nice walk on the lake’s shoreline to admire the view.
