Visit the Como’s Civic Museums, we always suggest to our guests to discover all the history and art that allowed our city to become what it is now through them, especially when it rains or when the air is cold as in autumn or winter.

Como’s Civic Museums: history of a city with ancient roots

In come we have 4 Civic Museums:

– Paolo Giovio’s Archeologic Museum
– Giuseppe Garibaldi’s Historical Museum
– Civic Art Gallery
– Volta Temple
Each of them allows you to immerse yourself in a truly different feelings and experiences. Here is a quick list of what you can visit.

Paolo Giovio’s Civic Museum

At the Paolo Giovio’s Museum you can see pre and proto-historic, Roman and Egyptian collections. The museum is located inside Palace Giovio and tells the Como’s history from prehistoric to medieval times.

MUSEO ARCHEOLOGICO PAOLO GIOVIO COMO

Giuseppe Garibaldi’s Historical Museum

At the Giuseppe Garibaldi’s Historical Museum you can relive from the Italian Risorgimento period of the up to our contemporary history. The Museum is into the Olginati’s Palace where it stayed also Garibaldi in 1866.

MUSEO STORICO GIUSEPPE GARIBALDI como

Civic Art Gallery

The Municipal Art Gallery is dedicated to the Middle Ages, Renaissance and twentieth century art.
Born in 1989 after a reorganization of the Civic Museum, the Art Gallery is housed into Palazzo Volpi and the artistic heritage of the city is added annually by numerous private donation. Moreover every year there are always more evidences also related to the building, that has a rationalist structures and was build during the Fascist era, recovered thanks to the City of Como archive.

pINACOTECA CIVICA cOMO

Volta Temple

The Volta Temple is overlooking the Lake Como. It is not only a museum, it’s a city symbol. Francesco Somaini, Como’s entrepreneur and sculptor, made a gift to the city with this neoclassical structure created for the celebrations of the centenary of Alessandro Volta’s death. Inside you can admire the original pieces, some reconstructions, documents, materials that will make you breathe the life of the battery’s inventor.

Visit all Como’s civic museums with special promotions

There are two essentially opportunities to save. The circuit of the Civic Museums of Como has defined a ticket, on sale at 6 Euro, that allows you to visits to all facilities in the list.
Also on the first Sunday of the month the admission to all facilities it is free. A great opportunity, don’t you think?
