Comacina Island: 5th place among the lake islands most beautiful in Italy

The newspaper ‘La Repubblica’ has recently compiled a list that highlights the most beautiful islands into our Italian’s lakes islands. Como and its territory were very well represented by our Island Comacina in Tremezzina (nominated at the 5th place in the list), and the “Island of Cypress” into the Pusiano’s Lake, a small lake located in Brianza between Como and Lecco.

The Comacina Island is a jewel to visit, they know both the Como’s inhabitants and the numerous tourists, but also the many VIP‘s who are visiting it through the year. From Naomi Campbell to Remo Ruffini (Moncler’ patron) only to name some of the most recent, but we know that the Comacina Island has fascinated sports and celebrities like the beloved Gianni Versace, Madonna, Victoria Beckham, Britney Spears, Jennifer Aniston, Syvester Stallone, Franz Beckemauer, Lothar Matthaus, Ruud Gullit.

Comacina island: an history that begins during Roman period

The island both during the Roman & medieval times was a privileged and strategic location for military, political and religious aims. On the island occurred historical facts related to the “Magistri Comacini” (builders and artists who came together in a traveling corporation between Canton Ticino, Como and Lombardy) and Frederick Barbarossa (who is still remembered in September during in the famous Palio). Today it is privately owned, but it is still open to visitors as well as the archeological site and the small Church of St. Giovanni. When to visit the “Isola Comacina?

Spring and summer are definitely the best seasons, but if you want to attend a special performance we recommend you to come and visit us the 24th June, that is the day when we celebrate St. Giovanni. In that day we commemorates the island’s fire and you can admire the fireworks’s show, the boats and the “lumaghitt’, floating candles on the water. A day that attracts tourists, VIPs and very Como inhabitants, so our advice is to book right away if you want to be sure you see this wonderful event.
