Nature and sweeping views by bike around the Como Lake
Discover the Lario area through some of the most beautiful bicycle itineraries around Como, full of amazing panoramic views and breathtaking nature. Are you ready to hop on your bike?
Other than the bike trails along the lake shores , there are roads and trails that will bring you up on the Lario hillside, among verdant plains, woods that will offer shade from the summer heat, and cozy places where you can stop and take a break, look at the views or maybe discover and old church or other remains from the war. I have chosen to show 2 bike trails in the Como Lake area that will appeal to those who love nature but have completely different skill levels: the first is suitable for the average bike rider, while the other is for a more experienced rider; the one who likes putting him, or herself to the test!
Tour the Como Regional Park “Green Peak” in bicycle
We are now south-west of the Como Lake, in that green area also referred to as the “green lung”, that starts from the Como plains and goes on westward, along the ridge that rises up like a peak and then dives into the territory close to San Fermo della Battaglia, Cavallasca and Colverde. Among all of the Como bicycle trails the one in the Regional Park “Green Peak” is the easiest one, but also among the most interesting as for the architectural and historical curiosities that you will encounter along the way.
From the Hotel Posta Moltrasio you take the Regina street towards Como, heading towards the village of Camerlata. On the right side of the square you’ll see the medieval tower of the Baradello Castle. The tower is inside the park area, and you can reach it by bicycle (during some passages you have to walk) through a short bike trail that work its way up the hill. On top of the trail you follow directions for San Fermo: you are now heading towards Monte Olimpino, with some easy climbs and fun downhill slopes. Along this nicely trailed itinerary you’ll pass on the land of the once famous “Cadorna Line”, before finding yourself in a beautiful glade where, if you wish, you can visit the Fort of Monte Sasso Cavallasca after just a short detour by foot.
Admire the sweeping views from the panoramic view points, or treat yourself to a delicious stop along one of the kiosks in the park. This bike itinerary includes the descent to the San Fermo village, from which you continue towards Como, pedaling on the flat, on the roads alongside the park until you arrive in Camerlata.
The Mount Bisbino itinerary, alongside the Lake
Now things are getting a little more serious! Many of the Como area bicycle itineraries, like for example the one that I’m about to tell you about, are located on high grounds and in the hills that frame the shores of Lake Como, offering a view of our lake nothing short of breathtaking. Climbing from the Moltrasio town center on the only road that leads to the summit of Mount Bisbino, nearly 1200 m above sea level. After a well deserved break, you continue on the ridge that faces the Italian/Swiss border, and this is where you muscles wil be put to the real test with a number of continuous ups and downs, and some short but intense climbs! Once you pass the Sasso Gordona you’ll continue pedaling on the ridges of the Lario mountain, descending towards the lake, and towards the beautiful town of Argegno, passing through lake villages, like for example Schignano. With great caution as the traffic can be heavy, you’ll head out on the main Regina road that will take you back to Moltrasio.
Cycle tourism in the Lario area, whether on expert of beginners level, in the woods and among ancient chestnut fields, or taking on the most challenging climbs, there are many bicycle itineraries in the Como area to choose from, and we are here to help you pick the right one!
