There are many itineraries to be found at the Lario. Today I want to talk about Lake Como’s Greenway, a route not to be missed.
There is something for everyone at Lake Como, every day you can adventure on a different excursion, surrounded by unique and inimitable landscapes. Have you heard about Lake Como’s Greenway? It’s a route that for over 10 km winds through Colonno, Sala Comacina, Ossuccio, Lenno, Mezzegra, Tremezzo and Griante. This interesting excursion takes place partly beyond and above the characteristic villages and partly along the lakefront. This way you will be able to discover all the different aspects of the Lario: historical villages, green fields, beautiful lacustrine landscapes, manors and incredible gardens.
The entire track has a duration of roughly 3 hours and half, but you don’t have to go all the way. Also available along the way are connections with buses and ferries. The Greenway follows the old road Regina and it is very easy, within the reach of everyone, with a difference in height of only 100 mt.
Start your walk in Colonno, where in the southern part of the town you have to take Cappella Lane. Don’t worry, you can’t miss it: you will find signs everywhere. Once through the town center, follow the old road Regina towards Sala Comacina. Here olive trees, orchards and terraces are a testimony of the lake’s mild climate.
After arriving at Sala Comacina in about half an hour (depends on how many times you stop to take a picture), leave the paved road for a truly panoramic path. From here you can admire the small but beautiful Island of Comacina from above. Still walking, after the bridge on Premonte’s valley, go down towards the small town of Spurano, with its S. Giacomo’s church and bell-gable.
Now go through the town and till Isola with its beautiful Villa Balbiano. Afterwards, at Campo di Lenno, Villa Monastero awaits you. A little further on you will find a side street that leads to Villa Balbianello or you can stay on the Greenway till Lido di Lenno.
Here the itinerary continues on the lakefront, siding the manors and the square till the boat landing, where you will find a footbridge over the stream Pola, leading to Tramezzo. Now climb up till Mezzagra and, still following the signs, you’ll soon be at the S. Abbondio’s church; from its square you can admire one of the most breathtaking views of Lake Como and Bellagio’s ridge. From here it’s all downhill till Palazzo Brentano, built in the 17th century.
Keep walking through Bonzanigo where, before going down towards the Lake, you’ll chance upon Palazzo Rosati. The last part of the Greenway is entirely by the lakefront. Tramezzo, a charming village with its boat landing, arches with plenty of cafes and shops is a really a must see. Don’t forget to save some time for a visit to Villa Carlotta. The itinerary ends at Lido di Maiolica.
Seize the chance and walk on the Greenway to discover Lake Como. We are waiting for you with a smile to help you organize your excursion, see you soon!
